Welcome to the Bylet Bowling Club, Bridgnorth, Shropshire

Our Club was founded in 1884 and occupies an island in the River Severn in Bridgnorth, UK.

We play 'Crown Green' bowls and have two greens. The club has twelve different teams which play in a number of local leagues:

  • Shropshire Premier League (Team of 12 on Friday evenings)

  • Mid-Shropshire League (two teams of 12 on Friday and one of 10 on Monday evenings)

  • Highley League (four teams of 10 on Tuesday evenings)

  • Mid-Shropshire Senior Citizens League (three teams of 6 on Wednesday afternoons)

  • Telford Ladies League (team of 6 on Monday afternoons).

During the close season (in normal times), we play indoor short-mat bowls in the clubhouse as well as darts, dominoes, crib, whist and bingo. We also hold a number of social functions details of which can be found on the events page.

This web site was started to keep the club together following the devastating fire that destroyed our original clubhouse in August 2007. Our new clubhouse was opened in July 2009 and you can view some pictures of the restoration work on the gallery page.

Deferral of AGM

As you are probably aware, we have been unable to hold an Annual General Meeting this year. As a result, the club officers and committee will continue in their previous roles and have agreed that we will not hold one until February 2022. We will however call an EGM if any member requests. Please contact the secretary by email or the contact form if you wish to do this or request a personal copy of the club accounts for 2020 (a copy has been posted on the noticeboard in the club).

Club Reopening

Following the good news from the BCGBA regarding Return to Play Guidance for Step 3 which effectively removes most of the lockdown restrictions, we will be reopening the club on Friday 21st May with bingo on the 22nd and subsequent Saturdays.

The Premier League starts on 21st May (we are away on that date) and we intend to continue with the Friday competitions until the Mid-Shropshire and Highley leagues commence in late June/early July.

So, until late June/early July, we will only open on Fridays and Saturdays and hopefully, Mondays (when the Mid-Shropshire team are at home), Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays thereafter.

New Web Site

The club web site has been converted to a new Google Site as the old Classic Sites are being discontinued. The old one will be available for a limited time here. News items will occasionally be removed from the home page to the current year in News Archive.

Hope you find it OK. If you have any problems, observations or comments, please email details to byletbridgnorth@gmail.com or use the Contact Form.
