County Welfare Officer

Irene Wood was appointed in this role but subsequently never took up the post due to county politics.

February

Defibrillator

The club is now in possession of a defibrillator, donated by the West Midlands Ambulance Service and around a dozen members have been trained in its use. Thanks to Fiona Hammond, Irene Wood and other members of the whist club for the original idea and to Ray Drew and his son in law Paul Passant for setting the wheels in motion.

All the officers of the club were re-elected at the AGM:

Arthur Greatwich Trophy

The Arthur Greatwich Trophy played on Bank Holiday Monday 25th was won by Scott Harries who beat Rob Steventon 21-19 in the final.

June

Club Doubles

The annual Club Doubles was played on the 28th and won by Chris Nock & Scott Harries who beat Beryl Steadman & Rob Renke 15-14 in the final.

August

Captain's Day

The weather stayed fine for Captain's Day on Sunday 16th and 27 bowlers entered the competition with many more enjoying the barbecue organised by Irene Wood, Fiona Hammond & Kath Driver and the splendid puddings provided by Margaret Baker.

There was some excellent bowling and eventually Barry (the real) Walters ended Captain John Palmer's hopes of winning his own competition with a 21-16 win in the final. Losing semi-finalists were Tony Steadman and Geoff Carnell.

President's Day

This competition had to be postponed because of awful weather earlier in the season. Fortunately, there were no weather worries as Sunday 13th stayed fine all day. Twenty three bowlers entered the competition and they and many more enjoyed a splendid tea prepared by Irene Wood, Fiona Hammond, Kath Driver, Sue King and Margaret Baker.

President, Rob Renke, danced his way to the final with some close games but met his match in the final when he lost to Matt Ealey 21-9. Losing semi-finalists were Pete Driver and Georgina Marsh.

Highley League Consolation Cup Final

Congratulations to Georgina Marsh and her Bylet 'A' team for reaching the final of the Highley League Consolation Cup. They were beaten by a strong Horsehay 'B' side at Stockton by 34 chalks (only 14 with the handicap). Everybody bowled well and they were a credit to the club. See team photo below.
